Well... After a 13 month lay-off, I'm reporting for a job tomorrow.
For most accounts, I'm not thrilled. It's a little over 1/3 of the pay that I've been mostly getting since 1999 (which I'm not thrilled about either, but... that's contracting), less benefits that I usually get, even (and for contracting, that's not much!), and it will last no longer than 8 weeks.

But...
At least I can point to that and say I haven't been sitting on my butt intentionally.
I was hired to a semi-supervisory position, which I can point to and finally say "See? I really have done this!" Always before I'd been put in charge of supervising people, but without the title.
There is some remote and vague relation to the previous career, in the fact that maps are involved.
The position is Public Confidence... while not a security clearance per se, at least it is one of those things being asked for a lot in my field, these days.

So... here I go!

22 Months... nada.
Been through my first round of trying to claim disability. After seeing what my back looked like in an x-ray, I was in shock that I can walk or stand as much as I can, which, is getting disgustingly less and less. (Remembering a day when I didn't think a thing about a 5 mile hike... now... I look down the block and debate walking that far... Not because I don't want to, but just gaging the pain I'll be in.)

Of course, having been laid off and not working in my field for almost two years, I guess I can say I'm a former drafter/designer.
And I could go back to school... I'd need a bachelor's degree just to stay at my previous status... but, frankly, I don't want to be paying off student loans with my retirement check, it will be small enough as it is!

Anybody know what flavors gun barrels come in?:picknose:
